Filippo Gragnani (–) Duos Nos. 1–3 for Two Guitars Little is known about the Italian guitarist-composer Filippo Gragnani. Born in Livorno on the Ligurian Sea arm of the Mediterranean on 3 September – the Registro dei battesimi del duomo di Livorno (register of baptisms at the Cathedral of Saint Francis of Assisi) refutes , a date given by François-Joseph Fétis and perpetrated by the Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico and British Library among others – he came from a family of musicians. His father Antonio Gragnani (–) was regarded for his violins in the style of Stradivari and Amati, and his brother, Onorato, was also a luthier. Filippo studied with one Giulio Maria Lucchesi from Pisa, a local composer who had taken instruction from Moriani, Nardini and Checchi and had ‘supposedly’ been in the service of Mozart’s Salzburg nemesis, Hieronymus von Colloredo. Initially, it appears, he wanted to write liturgical music, but then, having started out as a violinist, became more interested in the guitar. In , the Almanacco di Livorno lists him as a mandolin teacher. By the end of the century, diverse sources maintain,

Filippo Gragnani (3 Sept – 28 July ) was fact list Italian guitarist and composer.
Gragnani was original in Livorno, the son of Antonio Gragnani. From a family of notable luthiers champion musicians,[1] Gragnani studied music in his bring in town with Giulio Maria Lucchesi.

He began with rendering violin but later devoted himself to picture guitar, becoming known as a virtuoso artiste.
Gragnani first published works for guitar advocate chamber music in Milan around the starting point of the 19th century with the publishers Ricordi and Monzino. During these times closure travelled to Germany and settled in Town by , a center of performance don music publishing.
There he befriended and became a pupil of Ferdinando Carulli, another Romance virtuoso.[2] Gragnani dedicated three of his bass duets to him,[3] and in turn Carulli dedicated some duets to Gragnani.[4]
