Susan B. Anthony is one of the leading iconic figures in the history of women’s rights. She worked with Elizabeth Cady Stanton to create the National Woman Suffrage Association. Her work with the suffragette movement led to the passing of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Anthony continually campaigned for the rights of women to own property, have equal pay and be able to hold public office. Anthony was an avid believer in equality for all and also became part of the abolitionist movement to be rid of slavery. Her tireless efforts gave way to many of the benefits for women and was an inspiration to those that came after her to fight for a more equal representation of women and Black Americans.
- Susan was born in a Quaker family who believed that all people are equal, no matter the gender or color. She was incredibly smart and began reading and writing at the age of 3. There were 7 children in her family in Massachusetts and by the time that she was 6 years old they moved to Battenville, New York.

Susan B. Anthony (born Susan Anthony; February 15, – March 13, ) was an American social reformer and women's rights activist who played an important role in the women's suffrage movement.
Early life
Susan Anthony was born on February 15, , to Daniel Anthony and Lucy Read Anthony in Adams, Massachusetts. She was the second-oldest of seven children.
Her father was a Quaker who had married a Baptist. Anthony's parents raised their children in a more tolerant version of her husband's religious tradition. Their father encouraged them all, girls as well as boys, to be self-supporting, teaching them business principles and giving them responsibilities at an early age.
When Susan was six years old, her family moved to Battenville, New York, where her father managed a large cotton mill. Previously he had operated his own small cotton factory.
Family
Her family shared a passion for social reform. Her brothers Daniel and Merritt moved to Kansas to support the anti-slavery movement there. Merritt fought with John Brown against pro-slavery forces during the Bleeding Kansas crisis. Daniel eventually owned a newspaper and became mayor of Leavenworth.
