Sharlyne powell biography of martin luther

Martin Luther (November 10, – February 18, ) was a German monk who became the father of the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther criticised aspects of the Catholic Church and the concept of Papal infallibility. In particular, he believed that it was the Bible alone &#; and not priests or the Church &#; which had legitimacy for interpreting the word of Christ. Martin Luther also translated the Bible into German, making it more accessible to the general public.

The Remarkable Story of Katharina von Bora, wife to Martin Luther

Authors: John Stonestreet | Dr. Glenn Sunshine

On Easter Day, April 4, , Leonhard Köppe smuggled a group of nuns who were hiding in herring barrels out of a Cistercian convent in Nimbschen. One of these nuns was Katharina von Bora, who later became the wife of Martin Luther.

Katharina had lived in convents since she was very young, placed there by her parents who were too poor to supply her dowry. Unhappy there, Katharina found both the opportunity and inspiration to escape when the Protestant Reformation began to spread. She and several other nuns secretly contacted Martin Luther and asked for help to escape the monastery. Luther obliged.

At first, Luther and Köppe attempted to convince the nuns’ families to take them back. Their families refused, possibly because it was against canon law to take in an escaped nun. Instead, they found employment for as many as possible, and several others were married off to students training for the pastorate.

After two years, only Katharina remained. After neither of the two potential marriages arranged for her worked out, she told Nikolaus vo

The Life of Martin Luther: A Brief Biography of the Reformer

Martin Luther was a man whose heart was held captive to the Word of God. He was used mightily by God to usher in the Protestant Reformation, which would serve to recover the core truths of the Gospel that had been obscured by medieval religion and superstition.

Here is a brief biography of the man who sparked the Reformation.

The Early Years

Martin Luther was born on November 10, in Eisleben, Germany to Margaret and Hans Luder (the original pronunciation).

Hans worked in the mining industry, even owning a few copper mines, but he wanted something better for his son. Martin was sent off to boarding school and then to the University of Erfurt.

He was an excellent student. He soon earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree and seemed to be well on his way to success as a law student. But about a month into his legal studies, on the 2nd of June in , Luther was on his way back to school from his parent’s home when he was caught in a violent thunderstorm. The storm grew more intense and Luther became afraid for his life.

Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck near him, throwing him violently to the ground. Luther

INTRODUCTION Writing a short biographical article on a figure like Martin Luther in the contemporary context of celebrating years of the Reformation this year, is a particularly daunting challenge. It provides a particularly tricky task to produce something valuable for a Protestant audience obviously familiar with the great reformer, a man ranked by Time Magazine in as the 17th most influential human being in history Luther is renowned as the great church reformer, the theologian, the hymnist and Christian philosopher. However, his personal life, i.e. his existence as a man and his self-reflection upon his existence as an object of divine providence in his given historical context is one aspect that has always intrigued me of the great German Reformer. What kind of things was he really passionate about, what drove him, e
