Currently at  KP Projects in Los Angeles, Masakatsu Sashiehas another show on view featuring his striking levitating orbs of urban amalgamations. Oftentimes suspended over post-apocalyptic landscapes, the floating spheres from the Japanese are like self-contained worlds that are at the same time stylistically retro and futuristic &#; &#;hovering gracefully between the worlds of a nostalgic past and a potentially dystopian future.&#; Along with a selection of oil paintings, Sashie was also included some intricate drawings or what look to be studies to the exhibition.

Masakatsu Sashieis a Japanese artist best known for his orb paintings of fictional world. Filled with futuristic warnings about human’s tendencies. For environmental dominance and over-consumption.

Masakatsu was born in in city of Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture. He received a MFA from the Kanazaw College of Art in His birth town is widely known for its rich cultural traditions in arts and crafts. Kanazawa has very difficult geographical accessibility and it owns to this fact a rather unique culture development.

His musings on humanity and time started in his hometown, Kanazawa. &#;Kanazawa is like a miniature garden, where the obsolete and the modern coexist,” he says. “Because of its distance from other urban centers, there&#;s a sense of isolation that allowed me to consider the tide of times.&#; Sashie was also drawn to the art of bonsai and dioramas from a young age and, today, his art appears as his own miniature world of sorts. &#;I start my creations by making a story; it&#;s like creating a world.”

Sashie asserts that his works are impartial, in that they’re neither negative nor positive outlooks. But the paintings speak for themselves, and like crystal balls, his orbs give a glimpse of a possible future, however frightening it may be, warning us of the risks of rampant consumerism and neglectful waste. &#;I&#;m glad if my works serve as a clue for the viewer to start thinking about how they see the future,&#; he says.
