Biography

A noted politician of the time, Klemens Wenzel Nepomuk Lothar, often called Klemens Metternich or Klemens von Metternich, was the prince of Metternich-Winneburg-Beilstein. He served as foreign minister of the Austrian Empire from and First State Chancellor of the Austrian Empire from until he resigned in , and was granted the title of Prince in for his service to the Empire.

He was largely responsible for orchestrating Austria's entry into the War of the Sixth Coalition, and led the Austrian delegation at the Congress of Vienna after Napoleon's exile as Europe was divvied up among powerful states.

The Concert of Europe, a system of Congress and dispute resolution across Europe, is sometimes referred to as the Age of Metternich because of the Austrian power within the German Confederation and Klemens' influence within Austria.
