US WW2 M42 Reinforced Modified Paratroopers Pants, Named

In a very good and light combat worn condition a nice pair of Modified M Paratrooper pants. This stunning pair shows the early modification as done by the paratroopers during the invasion of Italy and North Africa. The side pockets are sewed down which was supose to reinforce the pockets. Also leg straps cut from a cargo parachute were added and sewed in to secure the pockets during the jump. This is one of  the earlest style of modification seen on the M42 paratrooper combat uniform.
It comes in a good mannequin size with all buttons and snaps in working condition.
On the inside it is marked with an officers army serial number and also the name ”Flanagan” can be seen. No further reaserch was done by us. A stunning pair of early modified paratrooper pants!

Bradford's Richard Dunn convincingly beaten by Muhammad Ali

Scaffolder Richard Dunn was hoping to adjust the landscape in his other profession and become Britain’s first post-war world heavyweight champion.

However, the man in the opposing corner was no ordinary proposition. ‘The Greatest’ was a tag that didn’t just apply to this boxer’s activity in the ring, but outside the ropes too.

On May 24, , British, Commonwealth and European champion Dunn would lock horns with WBA and WBC champion Muhammad Ali at the Olympic Hall in Munich.

Despite being in the final years of his career, Ali was not a shot figure. In the two previous years, he had beaten the feared George Foreman in the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and also won against Joe Frazier in the famed ‘Thrilla in Manila’ bout.

As for Dunn, he was in the pomp of his career, after beating the German Bernd August for the European title a month previously. The former paratrooper believed he could do what Henry Cooper, Brian London and Joe Bugner had all failed to do, become the first Brit to defeat Ali.

The adopted Bradfordian, who had dreamt of an eight round finish, appeared on hit ITV show ‘This is Your Life’ before th

M43 Rigger Made Pants

These World War Two Airborne Rigger Modified M43 pants are a hard to find Airborne item.  After the Normandy campaign, the st and 82nd Airborne Divisions (except for the PIR and their attached units) phased out the M42 jump suit uniform in favor of the new M43 uniform.  Although period pictures show the M42 jump suit was still occasionally worn until the end of the war, by the time of the Holland campaign, the M43 uniform was the standard Airborne uniform.

The M43 uniform was originally designed to be used by all Army troops, not just the Airborne.  It consisted of a olive drab green field jacket and a matching pair of olive drab green pants.  The Airborne decided the pants did not meet their needs as issued, because they lacked cargo pockets.  So, parachute riggers were directed to add one large cargo pocket to each side, along with a tie down strap to each leg.

This particular pair of rigger modified pants belonged to the same paratrooper that the reinforced jump jacket belonged to, that I posted last week.  He was a member of F Company, th Parachute Infantry regiment, st Airborne Division.
