However, little has been written about his formative years that ended up characterising both the graffiti aesthetic of the s and street art to come. Although his career has now been defined by record-breaking auction results and radical immersive works, his epic rise to celebrity status makes Banksy’s story even more fascinating. Banksy started as a freehand graffiti artist in –[30] as one of Bristol's DryBreadZ Crew (DBZ), with two other artists known as Kato and Tes.[31] He was inspired by local artists and his work was part of the larger Bristol underground scene with Nick Walker, Inkie and 3D.[32][33] During this time he met Bristol photographer Steve Lazarides, who began selling Banksy's work, later becoming his agent.[34] By he had turned to the art of stencilling after realising how much less time it took to complete a work. He claims he changed to stencilling while hiding from the police under a rubbish lorry, when he noticed the stencilled serial number[35] and by employing this technique, he soon became more widely noticed for his art around Bristol and London.[35] He was the goalkeeper for the Easton Cowboys and Cowgirls football team in the s, and toured with the club to Mexico in [36] Banksy's first known large wall mural was The Mild Mild West painted in to cover advertising of a former solicitors' office on Stokes Croft in Bris
Banksy is a British anonymous street artist, political activist, and painter, well known for his provocative and controversial artwork. He began making graffiti as a teenager in a city in England called Bristol in the 's. In his earlier graffiti career, he was mostly inspired by aFrench graffiti artist named Blek Le Rat. He was inspired to use graffiti to express his opinions and views on politics through utilising the environment and architecture around him to create more realistic and engaging pieces. Banksy started using stencil art in the late ’s, with the intention to stay safe on the streets, not get arrested but this also allowed him to complete his work quickly, precisely and in more detail.
Banksy's artworks frequently contain social and political statements that question authority, societal norms, and capitalism. Satire, dark humour, and visual irony are also themes used in his art to convey forceful themes about war, consumerism, poverty, and government surveillance.
