Former UP president Dodong Nemenzo dies
Former University of the Philippines (UP) president Francisco &#;Dodong&#; Nemenzo passed away on Thursday at the age of 89, as confirmed by award-winning UP professor Emerita Aida F. Santos on social media.
Serving as the 18th UP president from to , Nemenzo was also a political scientist, professor, and &#;radical educator.
UP&#;s official page described him as being &#;known for his strong nationalist and anti-imperialist views, as well as his lifelong commitment to the University.&#;

He is survived by his wife, Ana Maria “Princess” Nemenzo, their children and their spouses—Dr. Fidel Nemenzo and Dr. Marivic Raquiza, Dr. Leonid Nemenzo and Ruvelyn Lim Nemenzo, Lian Nemenzo-Hernandez, and Von Hernandez—their six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his youngest sister, Gemma Nemenzo-Ver.
According to Santos, a memorial service will be held for Nemenzo&#;s family, friends, and comrades at a date and venue to be announced later.

Template:TOCnestleftFrancisco Nemenzo, Jr. is a Filipino political scientist, educator and activist, and was the 18th president of the University of the Philippines. He has become a prominent Marxist figure in the Philippine academe.
He was born to Francisco Nemenzo, Sr., himself a former dean of the UP College of Arts and Sciences and Catalina Alfafara Nemenzo, a senior librarian at the UP Diliman university library. Nemenzo, Sr. was a pioneering marine zoologist, considered the father of Philippine coral taxonomy.
Called "Dodong" by friends, Nemenzo, Jr. was also a prominent participant in the Philippine communist movement, and was one of its leading Marxist theoreticians. As a graduate student in England, he joined a communist club in England, immersing himself in Marxist philosophy, economics, and politics. Upon his return to the Philippines, Nemenzo joined the old Communist Party, rising to the third highest position as the party's secretary of education and head of the international department. When martial law was declared in , he and his wife, Ana Maria Nemenzo, went underground but were captured a few months later.[1]

"Dodong Nemenzo's life was a testament to the power of ideals and conviction. His contributions to academia and society will be remembered and celebrated by many," they added.
Nemenzo's family also said that a memorial service will be held at a date and venue to be announced later.
There is no word yet on what is the cause Nemenzo's death.
