(18 February – 27 October ) was a Japanese businessman and inventor, known primarily for founding the Suzuki Motor Corporation, as well as several innovations in the design of looms.
Biography
Early years
Suzuki was born on 18 February (year 20 of the Meiji era) in the village of Nezuminomura (Japanese: 鼠野村), Shizuoka prefecture, a small village of farmers and cotton-weavers. He was named after the historical figure and Shintō deity Sugawara no Michizane.[1] As the son of cotton farmers, Suzuki worked in the fields from the age of seven or eight. However, Suzuki had always preferred more skilled work, so in , at the age of fourteen, he started a seven-year apprenticeship under the strict guidance of the carpenter Kōtarō Imamura.[2]

Suzuki Michio was born on February 10, in Shizuoka, Japan. He was born as the second son of farmers family.
Education
Young Suzuki grew up picking cotton and later worked as an apprentice in a loom factory. When electric power became more commonly available, demand for looms increased and in , 21 year old Michio decided to go out on his own. He turned the silkworm house his family gave him into a workshop and made a loom from wood and iron for his mother. Its innovative design allowed her to weave ten times faster than before.

He was a Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from to his death. He also had visiting positions at the University of Chicago (–61), the Institute for Advanced Study (–63, –69, spring ), the University of Tokyo (spring ), and the University of Padua (). Suzuki received his Ph.D in from the University of Tokyo, despite having moved to the United States the previous year. He was the first to attack the Burnside conjecture, that every finite non-abelian simple group has even order.
A notable achievement was his discovery in of the Suzuki groups, an infinite family of the only non-abelian simple groups whose order is not divisible by 3. The smallest, of order , was the first simple group of order less than 1 million to be discovered since Dickson's list of
