Professor Donald E. Camp is a resident of Philadelphia and professor emeritus at Ursinus College since He moved to Philadelphia in where he was a Staff photographer for, “The Evening and Sunday Bulletin,” until his resignation in He received his BFA and MFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in and He is a subject in the American Artist Oral History Smithsonian Institute. In he was the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships which included the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and the Pew Fellowship in the Art. In he receive his fourth Pennsylvania Council of the Arts fellowship. He is noted for his continuing body of work, “Dust Shaped Hearts” a body of mono-prints using light sensitized casein and dry earth pigments. He has lectured and exhibited internationally including the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia and the National Museum of The Gambia. His publications include Ebony, Deux Ex Machina, People, and Newsweek.

Dubbed the "Godfather of YA short stories" by Chris Crowe in the English Journal, Don Gallo has edited numerous award-winning anthologies dealing with themes from the moral development of teenagers to athletics and multiculturalism. His groundbreaking Sixteen inaugurated Gallo's interest in YA short story collections as well as the popular use of that format for younger readers. The book gathered the writings of well-known authors such as Robert Cormier and Richard Peck and ultimately found a place on the American Library Association's (ALA) Best of the Best Books for Young Adults published between and In books such as Visions, Connections, Short Circuits, Join In, Ultimate Sports, and No Easy Answers, Gallo has continued this winning formula of collecting the shorter writings of popular YA novelists and writers to present engaging anthologies.
