est une année charnière pour Andrée Cazabon. En , elle s’est engagée pour 10 ans en tant que citoyenne canadienne et réalisatrice pour participer au processus de vérité et réconciliation.

La cinéaste originaire du Nipissing, en Ontario, a réalisé de nombreux documentaires sur les droits des enfants, dont Third World Canada (Le Tiers-Monde au Canada) qui présente les conditions dignes du Tiers-Monde dans lesquelles vivent les enfants des réserves autochtones.

Avec l’aide de la Première Nation de Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI), au nord de Thunder Bay, Andrée Cazabon a organisé des voyages de réconciliation pour mettre des gens du Sud en relation avec les habitants des communautés isolées du Nord.

Honorary degree Andrée Cazabon uses film to turn pain into progress

It began in the basement of her childhood home. For Andrée Cazabon, the magic of film and the world of visual storytelling bloomed in a makeshift cinema.

Cazabon was seven years old living on the outskirts of Ottawa when her father put on the classic French Canadian animated short The Hockey Sweater on the 16mm film projector for her and other neighbourhood kids. As the film whirred to the screen, the colour of the picture, the emotion in the dialogue, and the sight and smell of the celluloid film became ingrained in her memory.

“I was sitting close to the projector and I was just fascinated that this story could literally come to life,” says Cazabon, who also lists a full spectrum from Star Wars to a documentary on the Holocaust as inspiration. “But to see a film of a book that I knew, I remember that being very impactful.”

Almost four decades later, her passion for film has come full circle. Cazabon is indeed a filmmaker &#; and a very influential one. Her work is nationally recognized for bringing much needed awareness and change to issues pertaining to the Indigenous community from the child welfare s












We are pleased to announce the successful launch of the Letters of Hope project from !


But first off: a great big thank you to all Canadian youth writers who submitted letters of hope in time for our launch to showcase the concept for the book. I am so grateful! We couldn&#;t have done this without you!


Throughout the course of the L.A. Rotary International Convention, youth writer for the project and film student, Devon O&#;Kane with filmmaker, Andrée Cazabon showcased the film and the upcoming book, Letters of Hope from youth to youth, to Rotary members and youth from around the world.


The objectives were:


&#;To gather support from community groups and Rotary Clubs to engage with young people in submitting letters of hope from around the globe. Our goal: 25 countries submitting letters before spring


&#;To get a sense of the level of support in bringing the film, the upcoming book and/or keynote speaker Andrée Cazabon to communities outside of Canada.


The response was more than we could have imagined!

Her works have also been prominently featured at an array of prestigious film festivals.
